Project consisting in imagining a game from A to Z and creating the documentation. I wanted to specialise in production management, so in addition to a high concept document, I wrote various production documents ranging from the EST to a market study and a budget simulation.
When :
January-April 2022
Duration :
3 months
Pitch : When Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney meet Love, death & robot.
Synopsis : From the Caribbean to the Russian steppes; from the 15th century to the 1980s; follow seven artist’s destinies as they create their work.
This is the first document produced which brings together various production documents:
I imagined the whole team and the jobs that would make up the studio made for the occasion. Despite my experience, I tried to combine quantity and quality, to find a balance between seniors and juniors in order to reach a budget that was certainly substantial, but in line with the market study that was visible afterwards.
I chose to base "Thousand Islands" (my studio created for the occasion) in Montreal, a city favourable to the creation of a video game studio.
Team designed with tools made available
A lot of documentation exists on salaries in the video game world, and this allowed me to make a dynamic budget with the previous document. It was necessary to take into account a maximum of elements to become familiar with this kind of document. It was therefore a lot of research to find prices on the spot (in Montreal), so to be close to reality.
Dynamic budget calculations
Finally, I carried out a market study to know where to place itself in the videogame landscape and to be able to have an idea of the future of the game. I also carried out a market analysis by taking the reference games to determine the price of the game and what it could bring in.
Extract from the market study, here the sales estimate and the calculation of the selling price
The second document is the EST, which I have detailed with one of the levels I made and other global parts of the game.
Extract from the EST of level 6
Extract from the EST of the playable character
I had to make a High Concept Document to "summarize" the whole game. You can find some screenshots of the final result, and if you want to continue the experience, a link to see it in full and another one to the narrative part.
The visuals of the two characters in the story that I made earlier were made by the Game Artist whose information you can find right here. Thanks again to them for their time and talent !
